Robert Pattinson Raises Money for the Homeless

Posted: 17 Mar 2010 05:12 PM PDT

He's always up for a good cause, and yesterday Robert Pattinson was spotted raising money for the homeless.

The "Twilight" stud stopped by Norman's Rare Guitars in Tarzana, California when the owner recognized him and asked him to autograph the Fender Telecaster he was trying out.

Of course Robert agreed, and now the axe is up on Ebay with a reserve price of $3000, with proceeds to go to the Midnight Mission Homeless Charity.

Following the encounter, guitar shop owner Norman Harris told press, "He's really a nice guy- very shy, very quiet.” The poor thing… he’s probably freaked out by all the stans.

Jessica Simpson’s ‘The Price of Beauty’ Fails

Posted: 17 Mar 2010 04:36 PM PDT

Despite heavy promotion, the ratings for Jessica Simpson’s VH1 reality show The Price of Beauty were, well, pretty ugly.

Monday’s premiere attracted just 1 million viewers. Around 487,000 people tuned in for the encore later in the night.

The show got beat by a rerun of NCIS on USA, a TruTV series called Operation Repo and History Channel’s Pawn Stars. Yes, she was beat by Operation Repo… have you seen that show?

Even former American Idol Fantasia Barrino had a stronger debut for her VH1 reality show, Fantasia For Real. (Her show premiere nabbed 2.3 million viewers.)

Reviews for The Price of Beauty — which featured Simpson, 29, and her pals traveling around the world to learn how other cultures define beauty — were mixed.

A VH1 rep said: “We’re very pleased with the show. A million-and-a-half viewers tuned in that night to see the first episode. We expect that audience to build even more.”

David Byrne and St Vincent To Collaborate

Posted: 17 Mar 2010 03:08 PM PDT

David Byrne reported from his blog this week, that he is currently doing some writing with St. Vincent’s Annie Clark.

Byrne sat in with Clark at her January 29th show at the Allen Room in New York, where the pair performed a song they had previously worked up.

But Byrne now reports that there are “eight or so” songs currently in some stage of collaborative development.

Due to Clark’s current touring commitments, the project has been proceeding in “fits and starts,” but it seems that at least one song is already largely developed. At her suggestion, the pair is even working with a brass ensemble.

Of course, Byrne is no stranger to collabs. His last album, 2008’s Everything That Happens Will Happen Today, was a collaboration with Brian Eno, and he has a new LP with Fatboy Slim, entitled Here Lies Love, out on Todomundu/Nonesuch on April 6th.

There is no timetable for their release, or even for their eventual completion, but Byrne has admitted to arranging some brass and even sending Clark some lyrics. Here’s hoping the two can find some time in the not-too-distant future.

And I picked one YOU would know,…Respect!

Britney Spears & Jason Trawick Broke Up

Posted: 17 Mar 2010 01:57 PM PDT

Britney Spears is once again single, breaking up with Jason Trawick.

The 28-year-old pop princess and her talent-agent boyfriend called it quits at the end of February after about a year of dating. Said a source, “They were fighting a lot and have not been getting along.”

William Morris Endeavor Entertainment, where Trawick plies his trade, confirmed Tuesday that the 38-year-old agent is still representing Spears. A rep for the Spears has not yet responded to a request for comment.

Meanwhile, this isn’t the first time the business-and-pleasure-mixing duo have required some time apart.

Spears and Trawick cooled off over the holidays in December, but rekindled the flame in time to attend the Grammys together on Jan. 31, where Spears was nominated for Best Dance Recording for “Womanizer.”

They were last seen in public together on Valentine’s Day at a McDonald’s drive-thru in L.A.

“They both just needed to take a break from each other. It wasn’t working out.”

This isn’t looking good… it’s reported that Sam Lutfi is waiting for her conservatorship to end.

American Idol Rolling Stones Night

Posted: 17 Mar 2010 12:42 PM PDT

I am so thankful that American Idol tackled something other than The Beatles on the first theme night. I adore the British invasion pioneers, but I don't think I can handle one more contestant butchering "Imagine" for the tenth time. Last year, if you recall, there was two nights of the debauchery.

American Idol Judges Table 2010

Regardless, the American Idol hopefuls tackled some Rolling Stones. Let's start with Crystal Bowersox, who is a fan favorite, getting knocked off her pedestal a bit. She did a good rendition of "You Can't Always Get What You Want." The tricky bit is…that song is pretty untouchable (for me anyway) and she has a hype and a high level that is being set nearly impossibly high. She didn't knock the judges socks of and therefore received some "meh…" reviews.

As Simon mentioned, Siobhan Magnus, out-performed Cyrstal last night. She was brave enough to tackle one of the more recognizable Stones song, Paint it Black. It is a dark and twisty song that takes a fortitude of massive proportions. When I her Magnus was singing it I kinda doubted her ability to pull it off. Thankfully, I was proven wrong…and we might have a dark horse.

One of the more truly surprising contestants was Aaron Kelly singing "Angie." Another well known and loved tune that Cowell admitted to thinking Aaron would "crash and burn." At 16 it's a difficult song to tackle. He managed to pull it off to positive reviews. He still needs to weed out the karaoke feel and work on the Show Choir air he is projecting.

The most interesting point came when Andrew Garcia sang. And finally, thank you baby Jesus, Simon told Kara to STFU already. She was babbling about "intensity," "connection" and blah blah blah when Simon interrupted with What was he supposed to do, come out in a tank?"

I predicted him to be going home last week and he is still around. He is in the middle and I don't know that he will be around again. Tim Urban might finally be wearing out his tween swooning appeal. He rearranged "Under My Thumb" and it was deemed "bizarre." Tim just laughed and stood up there looking like a model.

Thoughts? Was Simon too hard on Tim? Who will be going home?
