Kevin Smith To Self-Distribute ‘Red State’ Posted: 24 Jan 2011 05:12 AM PST Director Kevin Smith announced this weekend that he will distribute his horror film Red State himself; “Indie film isn’t dead. It just grew up, this is Indie 2.0.” He debuted the film at the Sundance Festival, where he said that he wasn’t there to pick up a distributor for Red State, but to make the announcement. Starting at New York’s Madison Square Gardens on March 5th, Smith will tour his film around the country from city to city, with the tour concluding on April 4th in Seattle. The director’s hope is to have the film open in wide release on October 19th of this year, not-so coincidentally the same day that his first film Clerks debuted. Hopefully with enough buzz generated from the tour as well as from Twitter, Smith hopes to generate ticket sales so he can avoid using the Hollywood marketing machine for advertising. Well, good luck to you Kev. I’m certainly on your side here… OH, and what’s this about quitting directing after you wrap Hit Somebody? That I don’t like at all! Check out the source for more info. |
